The Owner Builder
How many "friends" have referred you to a "good", plumber' electrician or kitchen unit contractor?  Acting on this advice a contract is drawn up between the contractor and the owner.  The building goes ahead.  Owner, friend and builder are still talking, but the relationship begins to fray around the edges as the work is not progressing as planned.  The contractor keeps asking for money when he is not entitled to a draw as there has not been adequate supervision on the job.  Construction of the planned house should have taken three months, but seven months later, the job has still not been completed.  The recommended contractor is now dismissed and a new builder is brought in to try and complete the work.  (Often, not an easy task.)
